When William Chalker was born on March 3, 1786, in Guilford, Connecticut, his father, Isaac, was 49 and his mother, Sarah, was 43. He later moved to Saybrook, Connecticut before serving in the military.
William Chalker served in the War of 1812, was in the Battle of Petepany Point April 8, 1814 - Captain Clark’s Company, Col. Platt’s regiment, Connecticut Militia. He was probably captured off the coast of South Carolina during the War of 1812 which accounts for his being in that state where he married Nancy (Nannie) Stanaland near Georgetown in 1816. The family moved to Florida in 1851 and settled in Marion County near Ocala. William died April 10, 1867 and was buried in the private Chalker Cemetery there.
A very small family cemetery out of the way in a residential retirement area. Many unknown interments. The use of old surveyor's concrete markers are seen with the brass circle on top used as foot peg markers.
