Born 19 Feb 1894 in Meridian, MS
Died 22 Feb 1955 in Jacksonville, FL
J. A. served in World War I stationed at Fort Wheeler, Georgia, Camp Mills, New York and then at Is-sur-Tille, France. He served in Company K, 124th Infantry, 31st Division.
He was known for a love of fishing and hunting. He moved to Orange Park, FL from Miami in 1945. A "wing" was built on the north side of the family home, Chalgran, for his bedroom with a tiny bathroom. He worked as supervisor of the materials division of the US Naval Station at Green Cove Springs, FL.
All of the letters he wrote home while serving in WWI and after are saved in the family archives. He tells of an explosion in camp while in France and about the Miami hurricane of 1926, for example.
