Hallijeanne went to school at Rollins College where she majored in languages. She graduated as Valedictorian and was awarded the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award for her "spirit of love for and helpfulness toward other men and women". During her college career she spent the summers working at the Whistling Oyster in Ogunquit, Maine where she further developed a love for creative cooking which she expanded as she traveled all over the world.
After graduating, she entered the United States State Department where she served for 25 years. She was fluent in several languages including French, Italian, and Spanish. Some of the posts she enjoyed the most were South Africa where she fell in love with the blue mountains and water. She also spoke about how she loved the people of Italy and the food she enjoyed there. Her mother and aunt often visited her and lived with her in a few of her posts. Her mother painted everything she saw as she traveled with her daughter.
After she retired, Hallijeanne lived in Orange Park, FL with her mother and aunt filling the home with artifacts from around the world. Everyone loved stories and photos she would share of her experiences and the amazing meals she would prepare from cuisines of countries where she had lived.
