When Randolph Washington Chalker was born on November 20, 1814, in South Carolina, his father, William, was 28 and his mother, Nancy, was 23. He married Sarah Gillingham Bessent in 1840. Their son that was in our paternal line, Thomas Sidney Chalker, was born in 1853. Another son, William Randolph Chalker was a well-honored doctor in Lake City, Florida. His son, Albert, served in the Confederate Army and later settled in Middleburg, Florida. His letters to his sweetheart are preserved as detailed records of his service. His daughter, Orilla, also went on to settle in Middleburg, Florida. The "Chalker House" in Middleburg was her home. His son, Roy, was known to the family as "Doc" and was a close family member.
On the 1850 census R. W. Chalker was living in Horry County, SC and on the 1860 census, he was in Middleburg, FL. His occupation was listed as "farmer". He died on December 8, 1890, in Lake City, Florida, having lived a long life of 76 years, and was buried there in Oaklawn Cemetery.
