When Thomas Sidney Chalker was born on September 10, 1853, in South Carolina, his father, Randolph, was 38 and his mother, Sarah, was 41. He lived in Clay County in 1870 which he described in his diary. On the 1880 census he was living in Lake City, FL where he married Mary Frances Roberts on March 14, 1878. He was listed in records as serving as a druggist and later as a bank manager and cashier. He was prominent in the Lake City Baptist Church where he served as treasurer and the Order of the Iron Hall, a fraternal organization. They had one child during their marriage, Selwyn Thomas Chalker. Thomas died on August 26, 1902, in Lake City, Florida, at the age of 48, and was buried there.
Pages from the "diary" of T. S. Chalker when he was living in Clay County, FL. Most of the entries describe planting, picking, and preparing land for crops (ie. cotton), visiting neighbors, and going to church.

The box contained a number of ledgers. Most are related to the Lake City Baptist Church where he served as treasurer.
