WILLIAM GRANBERRY, JR. was born about 1652 in Nansemond County, VA, and died 05 Dec 1748 in Nansemond County, VA. He married Sarah Montgomery in 1673, daughter of James Montgomery. She was born before 1658 in Nansemond Co., VA.
Notes for WILLIAM GRANBERRY, JR.:
His son was of age in March 1694/5, indicating he was married by 1873. He was a witness to the Belson-Crew quaker marriage at Chuckatuck on "13th day 10th mo" (December, not October 1684, though not himself a Quaker).
He was on the Rent Roll of 1704 for 300 acres "held of her majestie" and must therefore have had a grant of such land, but no record of any patent covering it has been found, and it must be presumed that it was among the records known to have been lost. From the topography, surveys of adjoining grants and of modern surveys as late as 1916 and 1944, it appears that it was the tract "on the South side of the main at Bennetts Creek" leased to Thomas Minton on September 27, 1770, but there is nothing to confirm this.
Much of the information provided from "The Granberry Family and Allied Families" by E. F. Watterman (1945) and the work of Mary Collins Landin in "The Collins and Travis Families and Their Allies. 1982. She graciously gives permission for its use when not for financial gain.
